PACSIW: Image Comparision

when a Centricity PACS-IW user attempts to compare a series of images from different studies, the Study Category Indication may be displayed incorrectly (e.g., the system may inappropriately apply a textual label ‘Prior’ and a visual frame cue around the ‘Current’ image or series, and inappropriately apply a textual label ‘Current’ around the ‘Prior’ series).

If this issue were to occur and if the date on the images (which is correct) is not checked as recommended by good practices, the clinician may mistakenly interpret a historic examination as being the current exam, and vice versus.

Note: All other study and series information (such as Date/time, modality, series description, etc.) are displayed correctly.

The defect occurs when a user attempts to compare images via the following sequence of actions:

“Display Series List” button > Select the desired series from the study list > “Compare Selected” button to launch viewer and display the selected desired series.

(PACS-IW Series List)

If the user attempts to compare images via this workflow, then category indicator labels (e.g., ‘Current’ indicating the most recent study, ‘Prior’ indicating the most recent study among all non-current studies and ‘Baseline’ indicating the oldest among all available studies) may be placed incorrectly on the images.

Also, the frame that is used as a visual cue to designate ‘Prior’ or ‘Baseline’ may be placed inappropriately on the ‘Current’ series or image. In order for the defect to manifest itself, the study list also must be sorted in an order other than by ascending Study Date.

(PACS-IW Viewer)

When attempting to compare a series of images from different studies, GE Instructions Healthcare recommends that the user follow these steps:

1.      Select a single study from Study List
2.      Open Patient Folder (or set preference to open it automatically)
3.      Select desired studies from Patient Folder for comparison and click “Display” Button

If use of Series List is unavoidable, GE recommends that the user sort the study list by ascending Study Date after selection of studies and before clicking Display Series List button.
When using a list of series to select series to compare, always review Date/Time, Series description and other information to determine which studies each series belongs to, in addition to Study Category indicators.

This issue will be solved by FMI 85174.
