COLLABORATIVE IMAGING AND INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY (CIIR)
1. The Project aims to formalize the collaboration between Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI) Kepala Batas, Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) Kubang Kerian, and Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (PPUKM) Cheras on the imaging and interventional radiology pilot trial over high speed broadband access.
2. MDeC is managing the Malaysian Research and Education Network (MYREN), on behalf of the Government. MYREN is a high-speed broadband network that provides connectivity to the communities involved in collaborative research and educational activities requiring high capacity networking, locally, regionally and globally. AMDI, HUSM and PPUKM are looking into utilizing the broadband transmission technologies for their Collaborative Imaging & Interventional Radiology (CIIR) research.
3. CIIR is a project aimed at enabling minimally invasive procedures performed using image guidance utilizing broadband technology for sharing of radiology images.
4. To provide very good high quality connectivity to the affected sites, it is proposed that dedicated link need to be commissioned from the nearest MYREN POP to the respective locations. The proposed bandwidth for each location is 10Mbps using Metro-E solution. TM is chosen as the partner for the last mile connectivity due to their network availability and reachability to the respective locations.
5. The intention to create high quality medical services utilizing broadband services
6.The other direct benefits expected:
a. Enable and facilitate an efficient inter-institution communication through teleconferencing and live-case demonstration
b. Promote collaborative inter-institutions high quality research and to increase publication in high impact journals
c. Possibility of future research engagement
d. More journal can be published on specific area of expertise
e. Establishment of Data bank and registry for usage in training, demonstration on related area, and knowledge sharing especially for medical students and researchers
f. The creation of evidence-based knowledge to patients regarding the treatment options will contribute towards providing a high-class healthcare system in Malaysia
7. With the involvement of MDeC, MYREN, TM, AMDI, HUSM and PPUKM in this project, it would be able to assist the healthcare community especially in live surgery consultation and diagnostics that require high bandwidth with high definition image and video.
